Recognise Sanamahi as minority religion: FIDM

Demanding recognition of Sanamahi as religious minority and protect it, Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDM) has urged for discussion on the matter in the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly.
In a release, FIDM stated that out of 1.4 billion people in the country, people following the Sanamahi religion is only 2,35,000 .
Like the case of Cacharis and Tripuris facing extinction from their own land, the same fate will befall on the followers of Sanamahi religion if state government fails to take up necessary measures, he cautioned and urged the government to propose discussion in the House for recognising Sanamahi as a minority religion.
The release further informed that the organisation will be conducting International day of World's Indigenous People at Indian Medical Association (IMA) hall near officers' club Lamphel on August 9 along with a programme named 'Thouna Phabi Angang Mangadagi Tadana Pokpi Mama' as a part of the day.
