Imphal, August 01 2025:
Demanding urgent deployment of required teaching staff, students of Langmeidong Higher Secondary School, along with the school authorities and parents, have threatened to launch intense agitations if their demands are not addressed promptly.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Class XII student Elangbam Panthoi Chanu informed that the Langmeidong school which was upgraded to a higher secondary in 2013, currently has 160 students enrolled in Class XI Science, 100 in Class XI Arts, 180 in Class XII Science and 50 in Class XII Arts.
Highlighting shortage of teachers, she expressed concern that the Class XII syllabus, especially for students appearing in the BOSEM-conducted examination, may not be covered in time.
Despite having adequate practical equipment, science students are also deprived practical classes due to the lack of qualified teachers, she added.
Panthoi Chanu informed that several teachers were transferred or retired during 2017-18, but no replacements sent since then.
"Most recently, a Physics teacher was transferred from the school on July 23 even as the teachers posted to school yet to report for duty," she rued, adding that despite multiple representations to the director of Education, the vacancies remain unfilled.
She further pointed out that the school has shortage of a lecturer each for Physics and History, three Science graduate teachers, two Arts graduate teachers and one graduate teacher for Home Science, English and Hindi respectively.
If the shortage of teachers is not addressed immediately, the students would be compelled to launch a series of intense agitations,
she warned.
