Training on organic millet farming held

A seven-day vocational training programme aimed at empowering women and tribal youths through organic millet farming was held from October 23 to 30 at the Multi Technology Testing Centre and Vocational Training Centre (MTTC&VTC), College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya, under the Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
The programme, funded by ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad, was co-ordinated by MTTC&VTC assistant professor Dr Sabyasachi Majumdar.
According to a statement issued by the College, 28 farmers from Kherapara village in West Garo Hills district participated in the training that focused on cultivation of great millet and foxtail millet.
The participants also learned about the advantages of intercropping millets with cowpea, utilising biofertilisers, vermicompost, Jeevamritha, and Beejamritha, and preserving local millet seeds.
Additionally, they received hands-on experience in preparing 'jowar roti'.
The programme concluded with a valedictory ceremony, during which certificates and essential inputs were distributed to the participants.
