Ukhrul, January 30 2025:
Sit-in demonstrations demanding immediate revocation of the transfer order for Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo were held simultaneously outside the district's Mini-secretariat and the DC's official quarters in the town on Thursday.
The protests were organised by Tangkhul frontal organisations under the banner of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), condemning the decision to transfer the DC.
Speaking at the Mini-secretariat, TNL president Sword Vashum asserted that asking a senior officer from their community to hand over her charges/duties within less than 24 hours is a deep insult to the people.
"This is an insult not to Zuringla Kengoo individually, it's an insult to our people.
This is not done...it's an injustice," he lamented.
TSL president Thingreiphy Lungharwoshi noted that the transfer of Kengoo is ill-timed, given her administration has implemented numerous positive changes within the district.
The protests, which began at 8 am, were attended by women, who displayed banners inscribed with "Ukhrul deserves good governance Revoke the transfer order of DC Zuringla Kengoo", while chanting slogans urging the government to reconsider its decision in public interest.
Demonstrators positioned themselves outside the Mini-secretariat to obstruct the entry of the incoming deputy commissioner, while also blocking access to the DC's official quarters to prevent Kengoo from leaving her residence.
Sources disclosed that the incoming DC arrived around 9 am but was unable to enter the Mini-secretariat due to the protests and instead proceeded to the official residence of the Ukhrul Superintendent of Police.
An official handover was scheduled to take place in the DC's office chamber at 10 am.
Later, the incoming DC departed the town around 2 pm, following which the protestors at the Mini-secretariat dispersed.
However, the sit-in demonstration at the DC's official quarters continued well into the evening.
