Monetary demands in red zone area protested

A sit-in protest was held at Kangmong Langoljam Mayai Leikai community hall on Thursday, calling for an immediate halt to all monetary demands in the Kangmong red-zone area, which has been severely affected by the ongoing crisis.
The protest organised by the All Kangmong Clubs' Coordinating Committee in collaboration with meira paibis of nine localities in Kangmong area, had the participants displaying placards that criticised demand for money even in red-zone areas.
Speaking to reporters, a meira paibi member recounted that decision for ceasing monetary demands in the area taken in meetings held on October 10, 2023, and October 10, 2024 .
These meetings were attended by representatives of meira paibi groups and local clubs of Kangmong village.
She said Kangmong village, situated close to Kuki villages, has been under constant guard by its residents.
In addition, the village clubs and meira paibis have been extending assistance to the internally displaced persons across the state through donations from the community.
Given these challenges and the ongoing crisis, all concerned should abstain from serving monetary demands in the Kangmong red-zone area, she said.
