Samarendra birth centenary committee formed

Imphal, April 12 2025: To organise a year-long centenary birth celebration of renowned Manipuri poet Kabiratna Laishram Samarendra, the Laishram Samarendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee has been constituted, appointing Yengkhom Anilkumar as chairman and Saratchand Thiyam as convenor.

In a release, Laishram Samarendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee informed that the year-long centenary birth anniversary of Laishram Samarendra will begin on July 20 at Manipur Dramatic Union hall.

As part of the event, a journal will be released and recitations of his poetry will take place.

Throughout the yearlong observance, seminars and symposiums will be organised both within Manipur and beyond to share contributions of the poet in Manipuri literature.
