Plantation drive, sports meet, run for fun held

Assam Rifles organised a mass tree plantation drive at Phaikoh and Nampisha villages in Kamjong district on Sunday during which over 120 locals teamed up with security personnel to plant 2500 saplings across the region.
The drive is part of Assam Rifle's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community involvement to combat climate change, improve air quality, and create a greener, healthier environment for future generations, said PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles hosted a mega sports meet from August 2 to 10 in Khengjoi sub-division area, Chandel district.
The sports meet witnessed teams from eight villages competing in various sport events such a football, car-rom, athletics, volleyball, and cricket.
The prize distribution ceremony wrapped up the sports meet, honouring winners and runners-up.
The event served as a platform for the participants to showcase their talents, foster connections, engage constructively with the community, and build a shared sense of identity, the PRO said in another release.
On the other-hand, in the run-up to the 78th Independence Day Celebration, Indian Army organised a 'Run for Fun' event, a community-oriented running event to promote fitness, unity and national pride, on Sunday at Phougakchou, Bishnupur district.
The 'Run for Fun' featured a 5km run with over 130 participants, including 25 girls, said PRO Defence, adding that the event was a celebration of our freedom, the spirit of unity that defines our great nation and symbolises our collective pride and resilience.
