Farmers allege curb on agricultural activities

A meeting of Bishnupur district farmers was held at Ngangkhalawai under the Moirang assembly constituency to address the prohibition and restrictions imposed on Meetei farmers from access their fields located in the foothills of the district.
The meeting held in the backdrop of hardships faced by farmers of Thinungei and Phoubakchao Ikhai villages, was also attended by members local clubs, organisations, meira paibi groups, Moirang Kendra Loumee Lup, Ngangkhalawai Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee, Ngangkhalawai Zilla Parishad, COCOMI Farmers Wing, Thinungei Gram Panchayat, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Citizen Forum, Ngangkhalawai member Meghachandra informed that resolution adopted at the meeting would be submitted to the central government.
He expressed deep concern over Meetei farmers denied access to their own land for ploughing, adding that they are now unable to even have a glimpse of their fields located oh the eastern side of the High Canal.
Criticised alleged inaction by the security forces against armed Kuki militants present in the area, Meghachandra cautioned that failure by the government to intervene in time would only lead to unwanted situation.
He said the central government should be held accountable in case any untoward incidents arising out of continuous inaction.
