AR honours Kirti Chakra awardee

Imphal, February 25 2025:
Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa, Kirti Chakra (Posthumous) at Sehlon, Chandel district, who made the supreme sacrifice during coUnter-insurgency operations in Aizawl, Mizoram, on February 25, 1983 .
Naik Tek Bahadur led a team in an operation against MNF insurgents, successfully cordoning off a jhum hut and apprehending the suspects.
During the interrogation, one suspect attempted, to flee into the jungle, prompting Nk Thapa to pursue him.
The insurgent opened fire, critically wounding Nk Thapa in the stomach.
Despite his injury, he displayed exceptional valour by returning fire and neutralising the insurgent.
Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa later succumbed to his wounds at a hospital in Aizawl.
In recognition of his extraordinary bravery, dedication, and selfless service, he was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra in 1984.A senior Assam Rifles official laid wreaths in his memory, with over 150 personnel in attendance, said a press release of PRO IGAR(S) .
