Body of Abdul Kadir claimed, laid to rest

KAKCHING: The body of Chesam Abdul Kadir, who was found killed and buried, was claimed by his family and the JAC formed in connection with the murder case, and laid to rest on Tuesday.
Kadir alias Achouba (29), son of Chesam Abdul Zahm of Poubitek Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district had gone missing around 11 pm on June 10 with his body was found buried along the Imphal river bank seven days later.
The Joint Action Committee formed to pursue the case and bring justice to the victim had refused to claim the body.
However, the arrest of alleged main culprit Longjam Khaba and others by police in connection with the case, the JAC announced on Monday that it will claim Kadir's body.
Subsequently, the body was carried in a procession from RIMS Morgue up to Paobitek Kangjeibung on Tuesday, where many gathered to pay their last respects and pray for the soul to rest in peace.
Later, his body was buried at Paobitek Mamang Leikai in accordance with religious rites.
