World Poetry Day observed, award presented

Imphal, March 21 2025: On the occasion of World Poetry Day, Gopal Sharma Award was conferred to renowned writer Raghubir Thiyam during a function organised by Sahitya Thoupang Lup at Manipur Press Club today.

The award carries a cash prize, shawl and a citation.

As part of the event, a book titled, "Ootangbigi Lamdamda" authored by Thokchom Dollarsen was also released.

Eminent poet Doneshwar Konsam also chaired a poem recitation session.

Aseilup Manipur president, Dilip Mayengbam and Loktak Khorjei Lup president, Birababu Laishram were also present as presidium members.

Similarly, the Department of English, DM University also celebrated World Poetry Day at the auditorium of DM College of Arts today.

The event held under the theme "Poetry as a Bridge for Peace and Inclusion" was graced by Dr RK Sangsari, Head, Department of English, DM University and Prof Lanchenba Meitei, Dean, School of Humanities and Principal, DM College of Arts as presidium members.

The event featured poem recitations by 5 eminent poets namely Yumlembam Ibomcha, RK Bhubonsana, Arambam (o) Memchoubi, Moirangthem Borkeinya and Birendrajit Naorem.
