Assam Rifles organises tribute event, medical camp

Assam Rifles held a wreath-laying ceremony at Tengnoupal battalion headquarters to honour 18 brave soldiers of the unit who sacrificed their lives in a firefight during "OP Hifazat" in Manipur on August 18, 1994.According to PRO IGAR (S), on that day, a special operation was launched in the Sangkhomei Willong area during which a column advancing from Sangkhomei through the Yangkhullen jungle came under heavy fire from an insurgent group.
Despite the imminent threat, lance naik Bikram Singh and 17 gallant soldiers charged at the militants but sustained gunshot wounds and ultimately succumbed to their injuries, making the supreme sacrifice for the country, the PRO recounted in a release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles conducted a medical camp at Purum Tampak village, Chandel district on Sunday as part of its unstinted efforts to reach out to the local populace with limited access to essential healthcare facilities.
The Assam Rifles medical staff and a team of nurses examined senior citizens, pregnant and lactating women, and children.
A total of 96 locals of Purum Tampak and Laining Khun villages in Chandel district received consultations and medicines, the PRO said in another statement.
In another initiative, Assam Rifles organised community interactions with border villagers in Kangpat Khunou and Kamjong town in Kamjong district on Sunday wherein a series of events were organised with the stated aim of strengthening bond, promoting unitv and fostering goodwill among the locals.
Assam Rifles personnel engaged in meaningful discussions with the locals, addressing various community issues and discussing current and upcoming development projects under civic action programmes.
In addition, the Assam Rifles provided medical care and essential medicines to around 350 local villagers, including elders, women and children.
This direct engagement was crucial in reinforcing the strong, harmonious relationship between Assam Rifles and the residents of Kamjong district, informed the PRO.
