Cross-border smuggling operation foiled

Imphal, October 26 2024:
Assam Rifles intercepted a cross-border smuggling attempt near Petrol Pump, Moreh in Tengnoupal district on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that during a routine mobile vehicle check, AR troops spotted two approaching vehicles from Moreh side.
Acting suspiciously, the drivers abandoned the vehicles and fled into the dense jungle as troops advanced.
Upon searching the vehicles, troops uncovered a hidden stash of 40 sacks of Burmese betel nuts, valued at approximately Rs 17.28 lakh in the international market, concealed beneath 34 bags of shoes and four bags of slippers, it stated.
The release further stated that the seized items and vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Force in Moreh for further investigation.
