Rotary Club plants 105 trees at Sajiwa Jail

Imphal, July 19 2025: Rotary Club of Imphal organised a tree plantation programme at Sajiwa Central Jail, Khabeisoi in Imphal East on Saturday, planting around 105 fruit-bearing trees as part of its ongoing community service initiative under the theme "Let's Save Our Planet".

The event was held under the guidance of SP Syed Abdul Samad, and saw the participation of assistant commandant Khaba Irengbam, and DSP Kishorjit Singh, along with staff of the Central Jail and members of Rotary Club.

The programme was dedicated to late club member Surinder Singh Kaiser, who was remembered as a passionate advocate for environmental protection and sustainability.

He had actively participated in similar initiatives during his lifetime, often promoting eco friendly activities.

Speaking at the event, Club president Dr Digel Singh asserted that the Rotary Club of Imphal has been carrying out tree plantation drives across the state every year to protect the environment under its community service project.

He highlighted the importance of trees in reducing air pollution, conserving water, mitigating climate change, and supporting biodiversity.

Calling tree plantation a "vital practice" for a sustainable future, he appealed to everyone to plant trees and contribute to saving the environment.
