Imphal, November 14 2024:
Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) Women's Wing has issued a strong appeal for the immediate release of six abducted Meeteis, including three women, two children, and an infant, taken hostage by Chin-Kuki militants, in Jiribam's Jakuradhor Karong on November 11.In a statement, the Wing cited eyewitness report that the captives were moved towards the Barak River.
During the incident, two Meetei men, Laishram Barel (63) and Maibam Kesho (61), were reportedly burned alive.
DMCC held the government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, and the state government under CM N Biren, accountable for ensuring the safe return of the victims.
The statement highlighted that the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, intended as a peace measure, gives the government significant leverage over the Chin-Kuki militants, who rely on government support.
The statement also called for immediate intervention, cautioning that any delay may deepen public mistrust and seen as tacit endorsement of violence.
It maintained that the abduction of women and children is serious violation of human rights and an act of terrorism that threatens the region's stability and unity.
