Police detain social activist Malem Thongam

Imphal, August 07 2024: Transgender social activist Malem Thongam has been taken into custody by City police while trying to hold protest against the government in front of Bir Tikendrajit Park,, here, on Tuesday.

Denouncing alleged inaction by the state government against the 10 Kuki MLAs who are demanding separate administration since outbreak of conflict on May 5 last year, failure to take firm action against Kuki militants involved in the violence in blatant violation of the SoQ ground rules and non-discussion of issues related to the conflict in the ongoing state assembly session, Malem Thongam attempted to launch near Bir Tikendrajit Park around 3 pm.

However, a team of City police station foiled Malem's attempt and picked him up from near Congress Bhawan before reaching the protest site.
