AR hands kits to boys selected for canoeing at BSC

Assam Rifles presented kit items to two promising young athletes, Mahesh Laishram and Laishram Athoi Meitei, selected for the sports stream of canoeing at the Boys Sports Company (BSC) Bengal Engineer Group & Centre, Roorkee.
The programme held on July 2 aimed to equip the underprivileged youngsters With the necessary kits for their training, growth and success in the sports arena.
The items include household and sports essentials for use in the new place, said PRO IGAR (S) in a release Friday.
The Boys Sports Company (BSC) of the Bengal Engineer Group (BEG), also known as the Bengal Sappers, offers a prestigious programme aimed at training and developing young athletes.
Admission to this esteemed institution is open to young school going boys typically aged between 11 to 14 years.
The selection process involves a series of steps, including physical fitness tests, a written examination, a thorough medical check-up, and an interview to gauge the candidate's interest in sports and commitment to training.
Specialised training in various sports such as athletics, gymnastics, swimming, and boxing, alongside formal education to ensure holistic development is provided here.
Facilities include well-maintained sports grounds, advanced equipment, and coaching from experienced professionals.
The programme not only aims to develop sports skills but also fosters discipline, teamwork, and leadership, offering successful athletes opportunities to represent at national and international levels, according to the release.
