Imphal, July 30 2025:
Laingoubi residents have strongly opposed the relocation of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya from its sanctioned site under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Bishnupur district.
Speaking to the media, Laingoubi Meira Paibi Lup member Ngangom Bina informed that the school, formerly known as New Residential School, was sanctioned for establishment at Laingoubi in 2012 .
She stated that a local Khumanthem Khelendro donated land for the school project and classes commenced at his residence before the permanent structure was completed.
However, after construction was initiated, former MLA S Bira and incumbent legislator S Premchandra allegedly pushed to relocate the school site to Chairel Mangjil.
Although locals protested the move, Class X students were recently shifted to Kumbi Central High School citing the current unrest situation in the state.
Bina alleged that the school is now functioning entirely at the new location with a different set of teachers, raising suspicion that the conflict is being reinforced to permanently relocate the school.
She appealed to authorities to retain the school at its original sanctioned site, stating that Laingoubi and nearby villages have no other educational institution.
