AR conducts wreath laying ceremony

Assam Rifles under the aegis Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) organised a wreath laying ceremony for havildar (general duty) late T B Thapa of 4 Assam Rifles who made supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that on October 25, 1956, an AR column comprising one junior commissioned officer and JO other ranks of 4 AR were performing road opening party duty at Mao-Tadubi-Imphal road, when they came under heavy volume of fire from insurgents, which was immediately retaliated by the troops.
In the ensuing gun fight with fhe'insurgents, havildar (GD) T B Thapa sustained gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries, thereby making the supreme sacrifice for the nation, it added.
The release further informed that AR honoured the brave heart by paying homage at War Memorial on his supreme sacrifice for the cause of the nation disregarding personal safety.
The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying and a motivational speech was delivered to all ranks narrating the story of the brave heart.
A total of two officers, four JCOs and 38 other ranks of AR paid tributes by laying wreath and according 'Guard of Honour', it said.
