Yengkhom Nilachandra quits Congress

Kakching, January 25 2022: Yengkhom Nilachandra of Kakching assembly constituency, who was in the race for INC ticket, has quit the party along with over 350 supporters after he was denied ticket for the 2022 state assembly election. Announcing this during a press meet held at his Kakching Paji Leikai residence on Tuesday, Nilachandra said that he took retirement from government service an engineer in May 2020.Since 1990s, he had been working for the cause of Scheduled Castes and to improve irrigation, promote art & culture and bring development in various spheres.

The movement for getting SC recognition was not an easy task as the matter was even taken to the Supreme Court, Nilachandra recounted and added that he did not have any political motive when he put his efforts in those issues.

He is now joining politics only after his well-wishers advised him so that he could serve the public better, he added.

He admired and believed in the principles, ideologies and leadership of Congress party which is why he joined the party few years back.

He also played major role in improving the party's strength in Kakching assembly constituency after the defection of ex-MLA Yengkhom Surchandra.

On the other hand, Kshetrimayum Kennedy joined Congress only on October 2 last year and the party allotted him the ticket, which is against natural justice, Nilachandra said.

He thought of quitting politics as he earlier agreed to support the INC candidate irrespective of whom the party chooses.

However, his supporters are against the decision of INC and they are asking him to contest the election.

Consequently, he along with his supporters including Kakching AC Youth Congress president Kshetrimayum Chinglemba, had submitted resignation letter to the MPCC president through the BCC president on January 22.He has decided to join another political party and fight the election but he is yet to decide which party to join, Nilachandra added.
