Heavy vehicles banned to aid bridge work

Imphal, January 23 2025: Public Works Department (PWD) has temporarily restricted movement of heavy vehicles on the Top Khongnangkhong Bridge starting Friday morning, until further notice.

The restriction has been imposed to facilitate the construction of a new bridge adjacent to the existing structure, according to a public notice issued on Wednesday by the PWD executive engineer (bridge division).

Light motor vehicles and pedestrians are allowed to continue using the bridge as usual.

However, for safety concerns during the construction period, drivers of heavy vehicles are advised to use alternative routes, it said, urging transporters and drivers of heavy vehicles to cooperate with the temporary arrangement to ensure public safety and smooth progress of the construction work.
