State quartet receives Yuva Puraskar

A total of 82 artistes were conferred with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the years 2022 and 2023 in a ceremony held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, on Friday.
Among the recipients were four artistes from Manipur, recognised for their contributions to traditional art forms.
Moirangthem Kendra Singh and Urmika Maibam were awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2022 in the category of Nata Sankir-tana and Manipuri Dance respectively.
For the year 2023, Pukhrambam Reepa Devi and Saikhom Pinky Devi received the honour for their outstanding contribution to Manipuri Dance and Creative & Experimental Music respectively.
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, instituted by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2006, is named after Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan and aims to recognise and encourage young practitioners of performing arts in India.
The award is conferred annually to artistes up to the age of 40 years for their excellence in music, dance, drama, folk arid tribal arts, and puppetry.
Each award includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a plaque, and an angavastram (shawl) .
