Kangpokpi, August 11 2024:
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced pre-emptive measures amid escalating tensions and perceived threats against the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur.
The Committee also called consistent efforts by the Home Ministry and the government of Manipur to remove 22 and 9 Assam Rifles from areas under Kangpokpi district and Kangvai in Churachandpur district as a tacit approval to "mass genocide programme" targeting the community.
Recent revelations intensified fears and heightened concerns among the community, who have been appealing to the government of India for protection.
Stating that it resolved to take pre-emptive measures to protect the Kuki-Zo community from what they believe is imminent "second wave" of ethnic violence, CoTU cautioned that any untoward incidents resulting from the ongoing tensions shall be the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government.
He also gave clarion call to the Kuki-Zo community to remain vigilant, united, and refrain from inciting further animosity.
