Rising crime rate negates Govt's claim

Imphal, October 29 2014: Contrary to the Govt's tall claim of bringing down instances of insurgency problem and other criminal activities in the State in the recent past, there have been 68 reported bomb attack incidents resulting in the loss of 8 lives and injuring 72 people during the period from January 1, 2014 to Oct 27, 2014 .

Besides, there have been 98 instances of bomb attacks like planting explosives and hurling bombs at different places during the same period.

Data collected on the basis of reports published in State based dailies showed that there have been 166 bomb attacks during from January to Oct 27, 2014 .

Among the 72 people injured in 68 different incidents of bomb attacks during the period, nine are security personnel while the rest are civilians including three women daily wage earners at a stone crushing site.

A 70 year-old woman, engaged in looking after her grandchildren in the confinement of her house was among the injured civilians.

Among the 8 dead victims due to blasts are four security personnel and two women.

The data showed that there were 68 incidents of bomb attacks including blasts which were triggered, lobbing and planting in Imphal West district; 28 such cases in Imphal East; 19 incidents in Bishnupur district; 9 such occurrences in Tamenglong district; 5 happenings in Chandel district; 17 attacks in Thoubal district; 8 instances in CCpur district and 12 cases in Ukhrul district.

Interestingly, claims were made by the groups/organisations concerned in 23 incidents.

143 cases remained as mysteries as no claims were made or the police were able to unravel the same.

The police or security forces' inability to identify the perpetrators or bring them to justice and the reservation of the groups/organisations concerned to claim have caused apprehension and anxiety among the public.

It has also given rise of widespread suspicion and speculations over the existence of a network of gangs.

This is despite the huge amount of fund withdrawn as part of police modernisation.

In order to control crimes and criminal activities, the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System was launched a few months back.

State DGP Shahid Ahmad, on the occasion of 123rd Manipur Police Rising Day recently, had stated that an action plan has been formulated to control bomb attacks and extortion in Imphal area.

Around 2500 police personnel have been deployed under the plan.

Interaction with some blast victims revealed that no compensation or assistance has been paid to them by the Govt.They individually bore their treatment.

The police remained clueless about the incidents.

They are totally in the dark about the perpetrators of such attacks.

All the victims whom The Sangai Express interacted with appealed to the Govt to pull up those behind such bomb attacks.
