Imphal, August 28 2024:
If the road leading to St Savio English School at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai is not repaired by the Government within a week, then the locals will repair the same, resolved a public meeting today.
Locals of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Neikalong Kabui Khul, Guigailong, teachers and students of St Savio English School, and staff of Hillside Hospital attended the meeting held at Ima Panthoibi Laibung.
At the meeting, Thang-meiband Youths Social Reformation and Development Committee (TYSRDC) executive member N Ibomcha said the road has been neglected for more than 3 years.
Even as the ring road project is yet to be implemented, the road has been neglected and its condition has deteriorated overtime, he said.
The condition of the road has worsened after the Keystone Construction Private Limited excavated the road for fitting water pipelines, he added.
Now the road is in such a deplorable condition that even people can't commute on foot, Ibomcha said.
St Savio School Headmaster M Robindro said rains have added to the woes of the commuters, especially the students.
Accidents have occurred.
When the road is dry, the dust from it is causing health hazards to the students and staff of the school, said the Headmaster.
Hillside Hospital staff L Bulbul said the pathetic condition of the road has caused great inconveniences to the people and patients when visiting the hospital.
When the road remained inaccessible to vehicles, there have been many instances of people carrying patients on their backs, he said.
Neikalong Youth Club president Johnson Golmei too echoed the same concerns and said the bad condition of the road is affecting the daily activities of the locals of the area.
"The locals have run out of patience.
We will repair the road ourselves if the Government and its authorities concerned do not repair it within a week," Johnson said.
He said the Rongmei people and all the locals in the area will support every decision taken by the TYSRDC regarding the issue.
He urged the Government to promptly address the concerns of the people and repair the road within a week.
