Imphal, July 27 2024: A 76-year-woman has succumbed to her injuries weeks after she was allegedly physically assaulted by her neighbour at Iroishemba Mamang Leikai, under Lamphel police station.

The deceased has been identified as Khangenbam (ongbi) Mema, wife of Kh Broken.

The man who allegedly beat and kicked her using stud shoes has been identified as Kh Gokulchandra (43), son of Motibala.

The alleged physical assault took place at around 3.30 pm of June 11 .

The elderly woman was sitting at a community hall in her locality when her neighbour, Gokulchandra allegedly stomped and beat her.

He was wearing stud shoes and allegedly stepped on the elderly and kicked her many times, said sources.

She was taken to different hospitals, and had been receiving treatment since then.

After doctors at JNIMS told the family that there was no hope for recovery, she was brought home and died at around 5.30 pm yesterday (July 26) .

A postmortem of the body was conducted at RIMS today.

Notably, after the assault, police registered a case and subsequently, Gokulchandra was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Gokulchandra may now face additional charges following the death.
