Imphal, June 27 2024:
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has vehemently condemned the acts of terrorism committed by Kuki militants in the presence of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) at Jiribam.
After the brutal murder of Soibam Saratkumar of Sorok Atingbi Khunou on June 6, Kuki militants drove all the Meitei residents of Lamtai Khunou, Loukoipung and other villages of Borobekra sub-division by planting bombs and opening indiscriminate fire.
Apart from driving out the residents, the Kuki militants also burnt down 100 Meitei houses, said a press release issued by FOCS.
In the wake of these attacks, FOCS and several Jiribam-based CSOs urged the State Government and other authorities concerned to deploy adequate strength of security forces at Borobekra sub-division.
Moreover a joint meeting was also held with 39 Assam Rifles and CSOs at the office of JIMPAL at the initiative of CSOs on bringing peace in the area and resettlement of the displaced people.
The district administration and the district police were also appealed to deploy adequate security forces in the area.
However, one house belonging to a Bishnupriya and two Meitei houses were blown apart by planting bombs before they were burnt down in the wee hours at Butankhal, Harinagar and Bhokhal respectively, FOCS said.
Moreover, Kuki militants abducted two Meitei Pangals from Chhotobekra yesterday, it said.
FOCS has also condemned the acts of terrorism unleashed by Kuki militants upon the Meitei people as well as the silence of the Government of India and its armed forces to these acts of terrorism.
It also questioned the implications of the Government's silence to the acts of terrorism unleashed by Kukis.
Now people have a strong suspicion if the Government of India has been conspiring with the Kukis to destroy Manipur completely, it said.
If the Government of India is threatening the integrity of Manipur in collusion with the Kukis, the people of Manipur may be compelled to demand the political status of Manipur which was there before 1949, FOCS continued.
It once again appealed to the State Government and the Central Government to protect lives and properties of citizens by deploying adequate State forces and CAPF at Borobekra sub-division of Jiribam.
