Cong takes dig at Govt with 'financial crisis'

Imphal, June 25 2022: Claiming that all development activities have come to a standstill and employees are not getting salaries, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has asserted that the BJP-led Government is facing a financial crisis.

A felicitation function of newly elected PCC members, district delegates and BCC presidents was held today at Congress Bhavan where election certificates were also distributed.

Speaking at the function, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the State's budget amount is one the verge of exhaustion in paying loan interests.

As the Government has been levying different kinds of taxes, prices of all commodities have been soaring, he said.

Even though the Government has been collecting huge amounts from the people in the form of taxes, it is unable to do anything for people's welfare, Meghachandra alleged.

There is neither any development nor are employees given salaries.

The youth have been placed in a hopeless situation, he said.

BJP has failed miserably to fulfil its promise of giving jobs to 1.50 lakh people in a year.

The Government is even unable to declare results of the IRB recruitment test conducted a few years back, said the MPCC president.

The State's budget is on the verge of exhaustion in paying interest for the loan amount of Rs 540 crore taken from HUDCO for construction of Government quarters at New Checkon.

There is nothing people can expect from the incumbent BJP-led Government, he asserted.

Even though farmers have been facing acute shortage of fertilizers, the Government remains totally indifferent, he decried.

Saying that large quantities of fertilizers are being sent to Myanmar continuously, Meghachandra maintained that Urea should be fully controlled by Government and no private party/individual has the authority to transport or sell Urea.

He went on to ask as to why no proper enquiry has instituted into the recent seizure of Urea.

Accusing the Government of doing nothing to settle the Indo-Myanmar border issue, Meghachandra lamented that the disputes over the international boundary could not be resolved till date even though the Union Minister of State for External Affairs is a son of the soil.

The whole country including Manipur has landed in serious trouble and all the people are enduring extreme hardship due to misplaced policies of the Central Government and the State Government, he said.

The MPCC president then called upon all the Congress members to work with commitment for the welfare of the people.

He also appealed to the newly elected Congress office bearers to work pro-actively and with responsibility in all State issues.

Congress Working Committee Member Gaikhangam and other key Congress leaders were also present at the function.
