Imphal, February 25 2025: Batting for ST status for the Meiteis, a four member team of Arambai Tenggol called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan today and submitted a memorandum.

The memorandum outlined several key demands to enlist Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, expedite the border fencing work, update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the context of Manipur with 1951 as the base year, abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and penalise those who violated the conditions of the agreement, remove ST status from illegal immigrants and amend the MLR&LR Act and bring about a uniform land law.

The meeting which began at approximately 6 pm lasted for over an hour, indicating a detailed and meaningful discussion.

The Arambai Tenggol team was led by its leader Korounganba Khuman.

Tight security measure was taken up in front of Raj Bhavan and adjacent areas when the Arambai Tenggol delegation was meeting the Governor.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Robin Mangang Khwairakpam said that the meeting with the Governor has yielded an understanding on certain key areas.

While the specifics of this understanding remain under wraps for now, Robin Mangang assured that the details will be made public in due time.

Saying that the Governor has apprised them of the measures being taken up to ensure safe movement of goods and people on both the National Highways and to restore normalcy in the State, he added that the Governor sought assistance from the people in the endeavour.

On surrendering arms, Robin Mangang said that they have laid down some conditions to the Governor.

He, however, didn't disclose the specifics of the conditions.
