Imphal, December 24 2021: At least six persons including a brother of Heirok AC MLA have been arrested on the charge of murdering Ningthoujam Rohit in the wee hours of December 22 last at Heirok.

According to some media reports, Chief Minister N Biren had assured the bereaved family that the culprits would be booked within two days.

As per an order of the Home Department, a Special Investigation Team led by Additional SP Operation Thoubal Soibam Sachidananda was constituted to investigate the case.

The SIT arrested six persons namely Thokchom Henrik @ Naobi Singh (29), s/o Th Ibosana Singh of Heirok Part I Mayai Leikai; Khundongbam Nicky @ Anju Singh (33), s/o Kh Raghuchandra Singh of Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai; Laishram Biken Singh (23), s/o L Bimol Singh of Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai; Thokchom Bishworjit @ Putro Singh (40) s/o Th Ibochouba Singh of Heirok Part II Thokchom Leikai; Ningthoujam Panan Singh (30) s/o N Muhindro Singh of Heirok Part III Tourangbam Leikai and Thokchom Sanathoi @ Lai Singh (34), s/o Th Dijen @ Lakpati Singh of Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai for their alleged involvement in the 'murder' case.

Heirok police station has already registered an FIR based on a complaint lodged by the family members of N Rohit on December 22 and accused certain individuals of barging into their house and killing N Rohit.

There, however, is no report of seizure of arms used in the commission of the crime till the time of filing this report.

The arrested persons are likely to be produced before the Duty Magistrate of Thoubal tomorrow.

Ningthojam Rohit (21) s/o Premchandra of Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai was shot dead by a group of armed miscreants while his father N Premchand was grievously injured in the attack in the wee hours of December 22.Family members and the JAC concerned had claimed the body of the deceased student yesterday after Chief Minister N Biren assured of booking all assailants within two days.
