Imphal, September 24 2026: Security forces have reportedly arrested Thankhomang Haokip, the self-styled commander-in-chief of United Kuki National Army (UKNA) in Aizawl, today.

The arrest took place during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and NIA .

Details regarding the case and the charges against Thankhomang were not available at the time of filing this report.

The UKNA is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact and has been accused of involvement in multiple violent crimes, including the ambush on an advance security convoy of then Chief Minister N Biren Singh on June 10, 2024, near Kotlen along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) in Kangpokpi district.

Moreover, S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson who is said to be the 'finance head' of UKNA was arrested by the NIA on August 12 last in connection with the Tronglaobi terror attack that killed two sleeping children on April 7, 2026 .

UKNA is active in Churachandpur district.

Several UKNA cadres have also been killed amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, with the latest incident reported on September 2 .

On that day, the Army and Assam Rifles dismantled a UKNA camp at Phaibung village in Churachandpur district, killing two cadres of the insurgent group.

During a subsequent search of the area, the security forces recovered three automatic rifles, one 40mm Lathode and a large quantity of war-like stores.
