Lamka, Mar 23: The Commission set up to inquire into the facts and circumstances leading to the death of three Kuki students in police firing at KR Lane on November 25 last year is likely to submit its report in April.

The three students, Thangkhopao Baite, Limkhogen and Heminthang Baite, all from Moreh were allegedly shot dead by Imphal East police commandos.

The Commission, headed by Retired Justice C Upendra is likely to submit its report to the Government by April 10, after hearing the final arguments on March 30, said a well placed source.

Four police commandos were suspended pending the report of the Commission.

However the suspension orders were revoked and the four were reinducted.

The SP of Imphal East had earlier explained that the four were re-inducted to make up for the shortage of man power following the death of five police commandos in an ambush at Nongren on December 25 last year.

Meanwhile C Upendra who is also heading the Commission set up to inquire into the killing of K Bimol on December 28 last year at Nongren has asked the Imphal East police authorities to produce the arms and the empty shells reportedly seized by the police at the time of the incident.

The items were supposed to have been produced before the Commission on Tuesday but it was deferred after the police submitted that the arms were at the disposal of police commandos who were camping at a distant place.

K Bimol was gunned down under contradictory claims by the police.

Locals said that the youth was first arrested and later killed, while police had claimed that he was killed in a shoot out.

The arms and the spent cartridges will be sent to the State Forensic Laboratory for matching the arms with the empty cases by ballistic experts, said the source adding that on April 4, the panel along with lawyers of both the parties and ballistic experts will conduct a second and final spot visit.

A reporter of ISTV who had covered the incident will also be examined by the probe panel, said the source further.
