Imphal, June 23 2024:
Pambei-led UNLF camps at Nong- shum and Pukhao can't be removed, and all attempts to relocate them will be met with strongest of oppositions, said local organisations of Khundrakpam today.
A resolution to this effect was adopted by the civil organisations of the Assembly constituency at a public meeting held at Uyumpok Khunjao Community Hall in Imphal East.
The public meeting was organised jointly by the Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKAL), Village Protection Force (VPF) Sinam and United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi Gram Panchayat.
EKAL chairman H lbohanbi, VPF convenor H Somen, United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi Gram Panchayat president Th Sanjoy, Village Development Committee Uyumpok Khunjao president W Kokngangbi and other local leaders and members of civil bodies attended the meeting.
Beside adopting a decision to thwart any attempt to relocate the Pambei-led UNLF camps and cadres from the region, the civil bodies asserted that the ongoing violent conflict was started by the armed Kuki militants.
The organisations pointed out that it was the failure of the Centre and the State Government to protect civilian lives that led to innocent youths arming themselves as volunteers to protect their families and villages.
The organisations said they oppose any plan to crackdown on village volunteers who have volunteered to guard their own villages from Kuki militants' attacks.
They said the people as a whole oppose any attempt to remove Pambei-led UNLF camps and cadres from Nongshum and Pukhao.
There is an attempt to res-trict the Pambei-led UNLF camps to Kakching Khunou and Engourok only.
If this is effected, then Nongshum and Pukhao region will become vulnerable to Kuki militants' attacks in the future.
The people of the region trust the Pambei-led UNLF.
They don't have any faith in the Central security forces to protect them, said the organisations.
Any attempt to remove the group's camps and cadres from the region will be met appropriately, they said.
The organisations further asserted that they oppose combing operations in the villages in the peripheries and any attempt to disarm the volunteers before acting against Kuki militants.
The bodies said the Government of India must stop hurting Manipur and her people for geopolitical gains.
The demand for creation of a separate administration raised by Kuki MLAs must be rejected in totality, and all illegal immigrants must be repatriated to their countries immediately, they added.
