Imphal, May 23 2017:
Kuki Inpi Manipur today said that any move to withdraw or alter the newly created districts would be opposed tooth and nail.
In a statement, Kuki Inpi Manipur said that cease-fire between the Government of India and Naga underground in 1964 was extended only to Tamenglong district, Ukhrul district and Mao sub-division which alone were considered to be predominantly Naga inhabited areas.
After creation of Senapati district by amalgamating Mao and Sadar Hills sub-divisions and carving out Chandel from Imphal, the Naga area was gradually built up to cover both Sadar Hill areas and Chandel though they were predominantly inhabited by the Kukis.
This is by taking full advantage of the appeasement policy towards the Nagas, the statement said.
The Central and the State Governments should bear in mind that the problems in the hills of Manipur is due to the naked aggression of the Nagas of Manipur on the Kukis with the intention of dispossessing the Kukis of their land by force and fraud.
Therefore, any settlement in solution with the Nagas alone can never solve the political problems of Manipur without solving the 'Kuki issues first' .
The Government of India is therefore advised to evolve some formula broadly acceptable to all by taking into considerations the interest of all the stakeholders.
