Imphal, January 23 2010: Altogether four water schemes �� three taken up under Centre's flagship programme of Accelerated Rural Water Scheme and one from State plan amount, have been inaugurated at different places today.

Water supply schemes of Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai, Phumlou Maning Leikai, Kameng and Yurembam under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Scheme were inaugurated by PHE Minister TN Haokip and Speaker S Budhichandra.

The inaugural function at Kodompokpi was attended by PHE Minister TN Haokip, MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C RK Anand and PHED Chief Engineer M Imomcha as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

The scheme expected to benefit around 2800 people was sanctioned in 2004.The amount sanctioned for the scheme was Rs 34.88 lakhs.

The water scheme of Phumlou Mamang Leikai will supply potable drinking water to around 7376 people of Phumlou, Kadangband, Lairenshajik, Lamlongei and Koutruk.

MLA of Sekmai A/C H Borajao presided the inaugural function.

TN Haokip inaugurated the third water supply scheme at Kameng.

The Kameng Water Supply Scheme was constructed from the State Plan amount at the cost of Rs 19.58 lakhs.

The scheme sanctioned in 1997 would benefit around 646 people of Kameng.

Lamsang A/C MLA W Brajabidhu was present at the inaugural function as functional president.

Lastly, TN Haokip presided another inaugural function at Yurembam where Speaker Sapam Budhichandra was the chief guest.

For the first time, around 4097 people of Yurembam Makha Leikai and Mayai Leikai would be receiving safe drinking water from the project although the village is just around 9 Kms away from Imphal.

People of the locality were seen rejoicing on the prospect of receiving clean and safe potable water.

However, people of the neighbouring villages located beyond the scope of the scheme were seen complaining.

They urged upon the State Government to take up a similar project in their locality too.

Speaking at the inaugural functions, PHE Minister TN Haokip said that it is not the Government who would be benefiting from the schemes but the people.

He appealed to the people to safeguard these projects as their own properties.

Pointing out that water is the most basic requirement of life, TN Haokip exhorted the people to use water judiciously.

He also sought public cooperation for other projects/schemes taken up by the Government in future.
