Illegal arms surrendered

Following public awareness efforts by police, Assam Rifles and CRPF regarding Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla's appeal to surrender all illegal arms within seven days, a number of arms, ammunition and explosives were voluntarily surrendered today at Tuibong village, Churachandpur.
The looted and illegal weapons and ammunition numbering 16 items which were surrendered today included one M-16 rifle, one 7.62 mm SLR, two AK rifles, three INSAS rifles, two M-79 40mm UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher), one 9mm carbine machine gun, one 51 mm mortar, three .303 rifles, two single barrel rifles, 64 gelatine sticks, ten rounds of 60 mm Pumpi ammunition, 17 rounds of AK ammunition, 40 rounds of 5.56 mm rifle ammunition and three 9 mm calibre ammunition.

A press release issued by Hqs IG AR (S) said that the arms and ammunition were surrendered voluntarily after Assam Rifles along with police, CRPF, State intelligence agencies and the State administration engaged with local Zomi and Kuki community leaders, addressed their security concerns, provided assurances of safety and emphasised the positive impact of the region's de-weaponisation.
On February 21, one .303 rifle, one magazine, 13 numbers of .303 rifle ammunition, four BP vest, five BP plate and four helmets were surrendered to SP of Kakching police.
Similarly one looted tear gas gun was surrendered before the OC of Sapermeina PS in Kangpokpi district on February 21 .
