Cabinet nods to recruitment of 1882 teachers

Imphal, August 21 2026:
The State Cabinet today has approved a series of projects and policies, including the extension of an integrated sewerage project and recruitment of as many as 1,882 teachers.
The Integrated Sewerage System for City of Imphal Phase-II, funded by the New Development Bank has been extended for a period of 2 years upto January 8, 2029 .
The Cabinet further reaffirmed the decision for recruitment of 742 staff/teachers of different categories on contract basis under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
It also reaffirmed the decision for the recruitment of 1,140 posts of Pre-Primary Teachers under the Samagra Shiksha on contractual basis.

The State Cabinet also approved the Manipur Outstanding Sportspersons (Special Appointment) Policy, 2026 .
This policy was framed for special appointment of outstanding sportspersons to specified Group A posts in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department and the Police Department.
Sporting achievements under this policy shall determine eligibility and the maximum pay level or level-band for consideration, said the Cabinet decision.
The Cabinet meeting further approved the Deregulation of Change of Land Use (CLU) in Planned Areas of Manipur through amendment of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 .
This will be limited only to land situated within the Master Plan Area notified under the Manipur Town and Country Planning Act, 1975 where the proposed non-agricultural use is in strict conformity with the land use specified in the said master plan.
In a move to modernize the existing Treasury framework, the Cabinet approved the Manipur Treasury Rules (MTR), 2026.It aims to modernize the existing Treasury framework by integrating digital processes, electronic receipt and payment systems, and State-specific administrative changes while largely maintaining the core principles of the Central Treasury Rules (CTR) as adopted in the State, said the Cabinet decision.
On reservation, the Cabinet approved the "Reservation Policy for employment of ex-Agniveers of Manipur State" providing 20% horizontal reservation in recruitment to Group C posts in the Prison and Correctional Services Department, Fire Service Department and Forest Department.
The State Cabinet also approved the "Manipur Fire and Emergency Service Bill, 2026", based on the model framework developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and recommended placing the same in the upcoming Session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
