Imphal, May 21 2026:
Observing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been acting mute and blind to the acts of terrorism perpetrated in Manipur, former Chief Minister and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Okram Ibobi has asked if the Centre sanctioned such acts of terrorism.
MPCC observed Anti-Terrorism Day at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today in commemoration of the 35th death anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
"Even as we observe Anti-Terrorism Day every year, it has been more than three years acts of terrorism are being perpetrated repeatedly in Manipur", he said.

Apart from O Ibobi, CLP leader K Meghachandra, CWC Member Gaikhangam, MLA Th Lokeshwar, former Lok Sabha Member Dr T Meinya, former Minister Moirangthem Okendro, for-mer MLAs and many Congress leaders attended the Anti-Terrorism Day observation.
Speaking at the gathering which was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photograph of Rajiv Gandhi, Ibobi stated that Rajiv Gandhi was a young and dynamic Prime Minister who took several novel initiatives to make India a developed and powerful country.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a terrorist attack.
Remembering the day the former Prime Minister was assassinated in the most gruesome manner, the Congress party has been observing May 21 as Anti-Terrorism Day every year, Ibobi said.
Since May 3, 2023, Manipur has been witnessing all kinds of unwanted incidents.
Now the suffering of people has reached the limits, added Ibobi.
The Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been making bold statements against terrorism, often pledging zero tolerance against any act of terrorism.
However, neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister has said anything to the acts of terrorism perpetrated repeatedly in Manipur since May 3, 2023, the former Chief Minister observed.
Noting that both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have been acting mute and blind to the acts of terrorism perpetrated in Mani- pur, Ibobi asked whether Modi and Amit Shah do not think Manipur as a part of India.
Since May 3, 2023, around 300 people have been killed, over 30 are still missing and tens of thousands of people have been living in relief camps after their houses were burnt down.
People have been protesting every day demanding release of hostages abducted by militants.
With the fates of the missing men not known, the situation is highly volatile, the former Chief Minister observed.
When terrorists attacked and killed innocent people in Jammu & Kashmir, the Govt of India launched Operation Sindoor and a mili- tary crackdown against the perpetrators and even carried out surgical strikes across the border in neighbouring Pakistan.
However, in Manipur, the Government of India has been watching the acts of terrorism as a gratifying spectacle, Ibobi remarked.
The MPCC president said that the Congress party condemns in the strongest terms how the BJP Government has been viewing and treating Manipur.
Ibobi appealed to all communities of Manipur to stay away from all acts of terrorism but work together to bring peace and development in the State.
