Let's bridge trust deficit : AMUCO

Imphal, December 20 2016: The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has called upon all the people of Manipur to work collectively to bridge whatever trust deficit that exist among different communities.

Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office today, AMUCO president Ph Deban said that the relationship shared among different ethnic groups settled within the territory of Manipur was made and groomed by themselves.

The ongoing economic blockade which appeared to be driven by ethno-exclusive agenda has had adverse impacts on all sections of people.

People felt the impacts of the economic blockade so acutely as a slew of policies implemented by the Government of India in Manipur reduced the land to the status of an economically dependent State.

The ongoing economic blockade as well as the counter blockade would not bring anything positive.

Economic blockade is one form of agitation whose impacts are most devastating and far reaching.

The blockade has also become a major factor for growing distrust among different communities whicdh have been living together for centuries, Deban said.

The Government of India should intervene immediately and ensure that the issue is resolved at the earliest.

He also appealed to all CSOs of the State to take pro-active roles toward resolving the existing issue.

AMUCO always condemn any attack on religious places, he said while appealing to all people not to ever attack any religious place.

Snapping the centuries old bond shared by different communities on account of communication gap would amount to committing a sin upon future generations which cannot be atoned forever.

All the elected representatives should explore all options to resolve the current impasse.

Decrying that none of the elected representatives has done anything to defuse the crisis so far, Deban asked whether they have been waiting for the outbreak of communal violence.

Pointing out that the economic blockade is imposed by the UNC, not by every Naga people, the AMUCO president categorically stated that it would be wrong to blame all Nagas for the blockade.

AMUCO general secretary Sanjay Sorokhaibam said that each community has its own follies and faults.

Harping on such follies and faults would not bring any reconciliation but would only harm all the communities.

He also appealed to all the people to identify those elements which have been conspiring to create communal conflicts and ensure that they do not fall prey to such conspiracy.

Sanjoy further appealed to all the people not to do anything which may spark communal violence under any circumstances.

Rather people should protect each other.

He then appealed to all the people/organisations not to take recourse to blockade or counter blockade.

Sanjay said that all the ethnic groups of Manipur need to work collectively to restore communal harmony and make Manipur a progressive State.
