Moirang, September 20 2025:
Protest demonstrations were held across various locations in Nambol to condemn the ambush on Assam Rifles personnel in a public area at Nambol Sabal Leikai yesterday, which resulted in the death of two jawans and injuries to some others.
The protesters contended that the attack in a crowded place has created widespread panic and fear among the local community, disrupting the sense of safety and security in the area.
Condemning the ambush, sit-in protests were staged at Nambol Sabal Leikai, Nambol Hao Keithel and Nambol Maibam Lotpa Ching.
Addressing the media, the protesters urged all parties to refrain from carrying out ambushes in public areas in future, highlighting that the people of Manipur are already enduring significant hardship due to the ongoing crisis that began on May 3, 2023 .
The situation had been gradually improving but yesterday's incident has reignited fears and triggered fresh panic among the local residents, they said.
People of Nambol advocate peace, they said condemning the ambush carried out in a public place by endangering civilian lives.
N Bimola, vice president of the Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup women's wing, stated that attackers should conduct their campaigns in areas like the Moreh border or other locations, rather than endangering civilian lives in public places.
Meanwhile, candlelight vigils were held at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal and Kakching Lamkhai in Kakching district to honour the two Assam Rifles jawans killed in the ambush.
Organized by the 28 Sector Assam Rifles, the events were attended by senior Assam Rifles officials, representatives from the Kakching and Thoubal police, and leaders from various civil society and women's organizations in the two districts.
A five-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to the fallen jawans at both the locations.
