Imphal, July 20: Responding to the call of the AMSU, more than 12,000 students, under the aegis of the AMSU Thoubal unit, today surrendered their academic text books to the deputy commissioner of Thoubal, protesting the proposed extension of Centre-NSCN(IM) cease-fire to Manipur.

The agitating students had earlier planned to surrender their books in person to the Governor in Imphal.

For the purpose; they had also hired around 35 buses.

But, they were persuaded by the Thoubal SP, L Ibothoi Singh., from going ahead with their plan.

However, the students with text books in hands proceeded towards the DC office where they surrendered the books to the DC.

In the process, they shouted slogans such as "When the territorial integrity is in stake, what's the meaning of learning?" At Kakching, more man 7000 students took out a rally under the aegis of the AMSU Thoubal unit and PPASH and surrendered their text books to the SDO, Kakching, R Choudhury.

Moreover, the frustrated and agitated students also tore into pieces thousands of books which were seen scattered on the roads at Kakching.

Also surrendered text books today were around 3000 students from Wabagai, Langmeidong and Thongjao areas.

They surrendered their books to the SDO Kakching subdivision.

Meanwhile, the United Peace Committee, Pangaltabi, and the UCOPH jointly organized a massive rally under the guidance of the UCM against the cease-fire extension.

The 15,000-strong protestors took out the rally from Pangaltabi at 10.30 a.m.and covered Korshantabi, Wangjing Khunou and Wangoo Lamkhai before converging at Wangjing Khunou with a massive rally of about 5000 students which had earlier started from Sugnu Bazar.

Residents from Wangjing Khunou, Pangaltabi, Chairel Khunou, Korshantabi, Chanjou Khunou, Tangjeng Khunou, Wapokpi, Sugnu, Tangjeng Khemjao, Kharsan and Mahoutera, Ngamkansing, Kornu Ching, Korsan and Tonsem also took part in the rally which concluded in a public meeting at Pangaltabi Mayai Leikai.

At Thoubal, the students of the RUDA Academy and Sophia English School held a joint sit-in protest at Thoubal Parking.

More than 2000 students who earlier surrendered their text books took part in the demonstration.

At Khangabok, a sit-in protest was held under the aegis of the Committee Against Ceasefire Extension and Peace Restoration in Manipur.

More than 7000 students of local schools and meira paibis participated in the demonstration.

At Heirok Chingdonpok Lampak, a public meeting was held against the cease-fire extension by the local residents including Nagas.

The Divine Light Club, Bishnunaha Yairipok, also organized a sit-in today participated by 1500 protestors.

Members of the Thoubal District Panchayat Parishad will meet tomorrow to chalk out the future course of actions in regard to the situations relating to cease-fire extension agreement.

BISHNUPUR: Students of 13 schools in Bishnupur today took out a huge rally at Bishnupur and surrendered their text books to the deputy commissioner, M Sajjad Hassan.
