Plans on to upgrade Tamei PHC to CHC

Imphal, October 19 2014: Even as Tamei AC MLA and Hill Areas Committee Vice-Chairman Z Kikhonbou Newmai has said that efforts will be made to upgrade Tamei PHC to the status of a CHC, State Health Services Director Dr Okram Ibomcha has promised to provide required number of doctors and equipment to the health centre within seven days.

A team of officials led by the HAC Chairman and the Health Director visited the sub-division and met villagers and civil society organisation leaders yesterday.

It may be mentioned that the villagers have been protesting the Government's callous attitude towards their hardships due to lack of healthcare facilities in the sub-division.

The villagers had locked the PHC building demanding adequate medical staff, doctors, necessary equipment and infrastructure for the PHC.

In a meeting held at Tamei Headquarters, Dr Ibomcha apologised to the people of the sub-division for all the inconveniences they had faced.

Saying that necessary steps could not be taken up on time as the Director's post in the State Health Services remained vacant for around four months, Dr Ibomcha also promised the villagers that similar instances would not happen in the future.

Maintaining that every medical staff must go to their posting places, Dr Ibomcha said that doctors, who have not reported to Tamei PHC after getting transfer order, would be put under suspension soon.

He said that seven doctors would be deputed to the PHC within seven days.

Z Kikhonbou told the villagers that the State Government does not have any intension to give unequal treatment to the people of Tamei.

He has been constantly discussing the matter of Tamei PHC with the authority concerned and complaining it to the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister did not remain silent when he learned about the people's inconvenience, Kikhonbou said and added that however doctors could not be sent on time due to lack of manpower in the State Health Services.

He also urged the people of Tamei to avoid any sort of harassment or intimidation to the newly deputed doctors.

Saying that Tamei Sub-Division has 49 villages, Kikhonbou said that necessary efforts would be made to upgrade the PHC to a CHC considering the population of the sub-division.

After Dr Ibomcha assured the organisation leaders that necessary manpower and equipment would be provided within seven days, keys of the PHC were handed over to the Director.

Dr Ibomcha then opened the PHC which had remained closed for four months.

An ultrasound machine, three wheel chairs, one ambulance van and medicines were handed over to the authority of the PHC and people.

Health Services Deputy Director, Tamenglong CMO, State AYUSH Director, ADC Members and high ranking officers of State Health Services were present at the occasion.
