Trigger happy man remanded to custody

39 years old Raj Pangeijam who allegedly fired upon security personnel using small arms on June 9 during the bandh called by the Arambai Tenggol at Tera Sapam Leirak has been remanded to judicial custody after he was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
Raj Pangeijam alias Naoboi (39) s/o Ramananda of Sagolband Salam Leikai was produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West after completion of the police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand by a team of Lamphel police station.
The prosecution submitted that a senior officer of CRPF lodged a complaint at Lamphel police station stating that protesters comprising Arambai Tenggol, local youths and womenfolk held an unlawful protest against the arrest of Asem Kanan at Tera Bazar area on June 9.At around 3.22 pm of the same day, while the CRPF troops were cleaning the road, one of the protesters opened fire upon the troops using small arms and fled into Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak.
The troops chased him and recovered seven empty cases.
The accused was arrested by a team of Lamphel police station after he surrendered before the same police station.
Investigation revealed that the accused intentionally opened fire attempting to cause death to the CRPF troops.
It was also submitted that the accused has admitted to have committed the offence intentionally.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the prosecution and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused to judicial custody July 1 .
