Imphal, May 16 2026:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked Chongtham Bijoy to clarify certain statements he made on May 8 regarding the recent April 7 Tronglaobi attack.
In a statement today, COCOMI said Chongtham Bijoy's recent personal statement slandered the image of civil society organisations and tainted the public movement against India's "proxy war" and Kuki narco-terrorists.
His statements have caused confusion among the people and misled the public movement, COCOMI said.
COCOMI accused Bijoy of promoting conspiracy theories and painting the Tronglaobi attack as an attempt to gain political mileage by some politicians.
It also accused Bijoy of attempting to discredit the massive public agitation that erupted against the Tronglaobi attack and asserting the incident itself as an attempt to cause communal conflict between Meiteis and Pangal.
The Tronglaobi attack killed two children and injured their mother.
Bijoy's statements and the conspiracy theories he has promoted are deeply disturbing and it calls for a proper clarification backed by evidence, COCOMI said.
Bijoy should issue the clarification within five days.
The merit ofhis statements and the clarification will be judged by the people, COCOMI said.
Bijoy will be treated as a collaborator of India's "proxy war" if he fails to clarify within the given time, COCOMI added.
