Thadou Inpi, Assam bats for integrity

Reaffirming its commitment to Manipur's unity and peace, the Thadou Inpi, Assam (TIA) has stated that Thadous are not Kukis and stand for the unity and integrity of Manipur.
TIA, in a joint statement issued by Thadou Inpi, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
said that Assam and Manipur have shared a peaceful border for generations, bound by mutual respect and shared indigenous heritage.
"The Thadous of Assam from Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts proudly reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the unity and integrity of Manipur," TIA said.
Saying that its representatives attended the historic Thadou Inpi-Manipur CSOs Covenant of Understanding in Imphal on August 6, it added that the landmark event, part of the "Road to Peace" meeting in Imphal proved that genuine dialogue can overcome even the most difficult challenges.
"Thadous are not Kukis", he said and added that they seek rightful acknowledgment of their distinct identity.
TIA further said that they will not waver despite attempts by certain Kuki supremacist groups to undermine their position and identity.
It asserted that their commitment to peaceful coexistence in both Assam and Manipur is absolute.
Saying that the Thadou people have a rich and well documented history in both Assam and Manipur, TIA added that Thadou chiefs 'bravely protected the kingdom's freedom and our commitment to the State's integrity under the Indian Union remains steadfast' .
It also said that the distinct Thadou identity has been consistently recognised in every Indian census for Manipur since 1881 .
