Seeking the almighty's blessing and strength for perseverance marked the 100th year of people of the Thadou tribe embracing Christian religion with the main anniversary programme held at Motbung of Sadar Hills today.
Prior to the actual celebration held under the auspices of Thadou Christian Centenary Committee, a commemoration stone constructed at Motbung Bazar was unveiled by Rev Dr FS Downs from the United States.
The memorial stone is informed to have been prepared and brought from the scenic Haipi village.
a large number of Thadous scattered/settled in the States of Nagaland and assam as well as from various corners of Manipur thronged at the celebration venue where members of Tangkhul baptist, Paite, Rongmei Naga Baptist, Tarao, Anal Naga, Chongthu, Kuki and Thadou community praised the Almighty through religious renditions.
Besides Church and public leaders the celebration programme was participated by Dr Samuel Ghann from the United Kingdom, USA's Judith Boyd, CBCNEI general secretary Rev Dr JM Paupu, Chairman of Manipur Legislative Assembly's Hill Areas Committee Thangminlien Kipgen, MLA Kangpokpi assembly constituency and Haokholet Kipgen (MLA) .
In his brief speech at the occasion, Thangminlien conveyed that the Motbung event is only the beginning of similar celebrations and expressed hope that the centenary message of peace and harmony would re-strengthen the age-old fraternal ties amongst various communities.
The Thadou Tribe Council, Gen Hqs also conveyed the message of peace and progress in the society.
other highlight of the celebration include presentation of Thadou Literature Award to Rosy Thomsang, grand-daughter of revered Thadou literary figure (Late) Ngulhao Thomsang and honorary presentations to Thadou elders and leaders.
