Cops fire tear gas shells

Imphal, March 13 2015 :
Police today fired several rounds of tear gas shells to control a group of bandh supporters at Hatta Golapati during the 48-hour State-wide general strike jointly clamped by All Manipur Minorities Students' Union (AMMSU) and the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Ipham Salman Khan (20) of Kshetri Awang Leikai in an IED blast that occurred at Khwairamband bazar on March 11 evening.
Since early morning, a large number of bandh supporters came out on the street at Hatta Golapati and blocked vehicular movement.
However, police managed to disperse them although they resisted police action by pelting stones.
At around 4 pm again, a large number of youth came on the street and not only pelted stones but also fired slingshots at the policemen deployed there.
As the crowd became more agitated, police fired tear gas shells and the tussle continued till late evening.
However, there is no report of any injury.
It is said that a large number of police personnel led by Imphal East Additional SP Manjit were deployed till the time of filing this report.
