No police personnel will be spared if found involved in drug cases, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh has said today.
This remark of the top cop during the launch of a "Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally" at Hatta Kangjeibung came amid reports of at least five police personnel being suspended for their alleged involvement in a drug case.
Sources said the 5 cops who have been suspended from their service were involved in a drug seizure case recently on August 5.The police personnel apprehended some peddlers with drugs on Asian Highway-1 on August 5 and allegedly released them after taking a bribe of Rs 6 lakh, leading to their suspension from service, said sources.
The five personnel include an Inspector identified as Ningthoujam Devdas Singh, the Officer in-Charge of Imphal East Commando.
The other four cops have been identified as Sub-Inspector B Debson Singh of Commando Imphal East, Constable Tarique Aziz of Commando Imphal East; Head Constable Md Rakib of Commando Thoubal; and Jemadar Md Amin Shah of the 7th MR, Khabeisoi.
While the order of suspension cited "grave misconduct" by the personnel, the Police Department has not yet divulged the details of the case.
Meanwhile, DGP Rajiv Singh at the bike rally today said that the State and the Police Department are working to curb the problem of drugs in Manipur.
"The State has law and order issues.
