Senapati, July 12 2024:
The driver of a dumper truck carrying construction materials was killed when it met with an accident between Liyai Chilao and Vaisiichu, near Mark Dovei's Poultry, along NH-102A on July 7 around 9 pm .
The deceased has been identified as R Sapukho, s/o Th Rapri of Chingmei Khunou village.
He left behind a wife and two young sons.
The truck from Dimapur was reportedly heading towards Chingmei Khunou in Senapati district.
100 bags of cement and 300 CFT sand (Deopani) meant for the construction of Upper Primary School at Chingmei Khunou village was also lost in the accident as the truck was completely damaged after falling several metres below the road.
Notably, Chingmei Khunou villagers have stated that the accident is a direct result of negligence of the road construction company carrying out construction activities at the location.
In addition, passengers travelling along the NH-102A (Liyai Chilao to Phaibung) have also been reported to be travelling at great risks and had bad experiences.
Despite reminders to clear the landslide/mudslide debris for the last two months, the company failed to do so.
Thus, the construction site was allegedly left in a dangerous state, making it difficult for larger vehicles such as trucks to pass through safely.
Highlighting the company's negligence and lack of work ethics, the villagers added that there were no barricades or warning signs along the road.
The villagers also complained that there was no proper drainage, inadequate workers training, lack of traffic management, lack of regular maintenance, ignoring public feedback, negligence of rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
