Imphal, September 11 2025:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has temporarily lifted the trade embargo with effect from 6 pm of September 11 .
The UNC enforced a trade embargo in Naga areas under its jurisdiction from the midnight of September 8, 2025 after the talk with the Government at Delhi on August 26 on the issues of Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing could not come to any sort of agreement.
After the State Government sent a missive to the State Government on September 10 for resumption of tripartite meeting between UNC, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Manipur on the issues of scrapping FMR and border fencing in Naga areas, an emergency presidential council meeting of the UNC was held today at Senapati.
The presidential council meeting appreciated the Government's acknowledgement of the past engagement of the UNC and the MHA and also their confirmation of receipt of memoranda/representation on the same issues.
Further appreciating the Government's assurance that there will be prior consultation with the UNC and other stakeholders before works on scrapping FMR and border fencing are taken up, the presidential council meeting resolved to suspend the ongoing trade embargo temporarily with effect from 6 pm of September 11 .
